Billie has stepped into an in-demand industry with perseverance, specialist training and a little support. She had previously thought her goal to drive multi combination (MC) trucks was out of reach. Now she has landed her dream job.
Billie said financial constraints and her responsibility to a large family had made it feel impossible to enter her chosen field.
“I started talking to my consultant at My Pathway about my family situation, what I wanted to do and the avenues I had already tried,” she said.
“Previously, I had driven HR trucks and wanted to progress to MC vehicles. The cost of training and juggling family commitments made it feel impossible.”
Alongside her consultant, Billie began making a plan and was approved financial support for licensing through the ParentsNext program.
“The finances, time and licensing all started coming together and with that I started believing I could achieve my goals,” she said.
“It was the best Christmas gift I could have wished for when I got the call in December to let me know I had a job. Now I work with the largest logistics company in Australia.
“I still can’t believe I’ve done it! My skills will offer good employment opportunities well into the future. I can’t help but smile when I’m standing by my rig knowing I’ve set myself and my family on a great path.”
