Who wants a tropical sea change? Did you say ‘I do’?
Last year, Jade reignited her childhood dream to become a wedding planner, packed in her career in Melbourne and moved thousands of kilometres north to take over and reinvigorate ‘Weddings of the Whitsundays’.
Just months into her new business she found herself reflecting on the amazing journey she had made to grow the business into one of the Whitsunday’s premier wedding planning services.
“I was listening to my first ever booked couple speak the most tearfully beautiful vows to each other on Whitehaven Beach,” she said.
“The sun was on my face, and I remember thinking that not even six months ago I was in a role my heart was no longer in, wondering if there was anything else out there for me.”
Despite Weddings of the Whitsundays being an existing business that Jade took over, her success has not all just been a walk down the aisle though.
“Even though the business already existed, it hadn’t operated for quite some time,” she said.
“I needed to teach myself the ins and outs of weddings AND get the business going again.
“Safe to say I was spending at least 12 hours a day at my computer back then, but even through that time I felt energised and fulfilled.”
When she came across our Self Employment Assistance Program in her early days in the region, she immediately knew it was for her.
“Being supported to build my own business has allowed me to give it my all” she said.
“I can truly say I have taken full advantage of the opportunity to be in the My Pathway Self Employment Assistance program.”
Jade has been supported by our local Small Business Mentor Brian Ward through the 12-month business coaching option available in the Self Employment Assistance program and credits much of her success today to this support.
“Working with Brian is not for the faint of heart! she laughingly said.
“He holds me accountable and ensures I look at the things I might be hesitating over or even too scared to admit.
“But through this he has helped me address many of my money fears and supported me to charge at my true value.
“I honestly wouldn’t have come this far without him.”
Seeing couples tie the knot every day through her work, it’s little wonder that her advice for others is all about seizing the moment and taking those new steps.
“Be bold. Stop hesitating. Whatever you don’t know how to do, you will learn!”
“Don’t die wondering ‘what if’!”
